In order to ensure that students have opportunities beyond the traditional curriculum and understand the impact that this has on their progression, wellbeing and character development we launched our new Super Curriculum model at the start of the 2021/2022 academic year.
The Super Curriculum – Tutorial
Students in Year 12 and 13 have 2 tutorial periods per week and during these sessions, they have input on the topics outlined below. To complement this, there is also a digital element that is shared with students via Microsoft Teams, further developing on the digital skills developed through lockdown / isolation periods.

The Super Curriculum: Special Events
Alongside the tutorial programme there are a range of special events organised for students, to enable them to broaden their horizons and develop cultural capital. Some of the special events include:
- Motivational speakers
- External Sex Education providers
- UCAS workshops delivered by Universities
- Futures Fest
- Deloitte Partnership
- Partnerships with industry, including Lancôme
- Educational trips and visits
- UCAS University fair
- Work experience
The Super Curriculum: The Whalley Range Community
Students at Whalley Range Sixth Form are proud to be part of the wider Whalley Range family and we provide opportunities for students to complete work preparation activities within main school, including:
- Mentoring students
- Providing in class support
- Prefect duties
- Translating for students
- Supporting within year groups at social times
- Supervising the reflection room
- Providing technical support in PE and DCP subjects
Students at Whalley Range Sixth Form get a rich and vibrant wider curriculum experience and we are proud of the impact that student voice has on this, as it helps to create a bespoke programme for each cohort based on their individual needs.
