Sixth Form was a different transition from high school as it required more independence and self-awareness, to ensure work and deadlines were met as a BTEC Business Studies and IT student. However, none of this would have been possible without the support and advice given from all my teachers. Receiving regular feedback based on my performance and progress allowed me to target specific areas to develop. I would like to thank all my teachers for their endless efforts to help, and would like to specially mention Mr Bashir, Mrs Maloney Rock, Mr Mustafa, Mr Da Silva, Mrs Raffo and Mrs Beadle.
During my time at the Sixth Form, having a supportive Head of Year and Business Studies teacher was key. Mrs Maloney-Rock saw my capabilities and selected me as a Senior Student Leader. I was privileged to have the opportunity to manage student voice opinions through the action committee, run charity events, organise and run mentoring sessions for students, to provide subject support with help from Head of Faculties. Just a few things I achieved during this time.
The diverse opportunities to get involved with enrichment activities allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone.
I had the opportunity to get involved with level 3 Sports leaders, Gold Duke of Edinburgh, Manchester City young leaders training program and work experience; allowing me to improve my personal skills.
Despite the difficult circumstances of COVID-19, which meant that we finished college earlier, the support given to us students was informative and kept us on track of our work. We were made aware of any changes that were being made which would affect our assessments and exams.
I would definitely recommend students to study at Whalley Range Sixth Form, as it’s an excellent college environment where the students and staff are friendly and welcoming to any help you may need. My time at Whalley Range Sixth Form was definitely a great experience.
