Our Year 7 Taster Days and Transition Parents’ and Carers’ Evening take place this July 2026. Learn more about what’s involved and what you need to know as a new parent/carer.

Year 6 Taster Days

Wednesday 1st July and Thursday 2nd July 2026

We will be hosting two taster days to support your child’s transition to our excellent school. They will get the chance to meet their learning coach and take part in some exciting lessons, as well as meeting the other students who will be in their form. This is a fantastic opportunity to allay any nerves ahead of their transition to secondary school, as well as a chance to meet key teachers and the Headteacher, Mr Lea.

Venue Whalley Range 11-18 High School
Date Wednesday 1st and Thursday 2nd July 2026
Time 8.45am – 2.30pm
On arrival and at the end of the day
  • Please drop your child off at the central school gates from 8.30am
  • You will not be able to drive into the school car park
  • Older siblings and family are allowed to escort your child into school
  • Please ensure to collect your child from the Range Stadium at 2.30pm
Lunch
  • We will provide your child with a morning snack and lunch, free of charge
  • If your child has specific dietary needs, please let us know ahead of the day
  • There is no need to bring money to school
  • Your child may bring a packed lunch, if you’d prefer
Dress
  • Wear a white T-shirt, tracksuit bottoms and trainers. No need to wear primary school uniform
  • Do not wear jewellery (including earrings) or coloured hair ribbons, bands etc., apart from black
  • Please ensure that if your child wears a headscarf that it is plain black
Medical
  • If your child requires medication throughout the day, or has asthma and uses an inhaler, please make sure that they bring this medication with them and inform a member of staff
  • Your child will be taking part in a mini-Olympics and, depending on the weather, should ensure to bring water and apply sunscreen

Finally, you will also receive a separate email to sign up to our transition parents’ evening. This evening is an opportunity to meet Mr Lea, the senior leadership team, your child’s Learning Coach, and key members of subject staff, as well as collect vital information about your child’s transition to secondary school. There will be two presentations and a chance to meet with some of our key uniform suppliers. Please sign up for your preferred presentation time at your earliest opportunity.

Transition Parents’/Carers’ Evening

Wednesday 1st July 2026

We are delighted to invite you to our parents’ and carers’ evening at the end of the first transition day (Wednesday 1st July). The evening is an opportunity to meet the headteacher, senior leadership team, your child’s Learning Coach and key members of subject staff, as well as to collect key information about your child’s transition to secondary school.

The evening includes:

  • A presentation from Mr Lea (Headteacher)
  • A presentation and Q&A with your child’s Learning Coach
  • Key information about your child’s transition to secondary school, including an opportunity to speak to different uniform suppliers
  • Subject ‘stalls’ with subject specialists about year 7 subjects and content
  • SEND/medical meetings with senior staff for applicable students
  • FAQ with senior staff and the transition co-ordinator

There are two sessions to choose from (3.15 – 4.45pm or 4.15 – 5.45pm). You should have received an email to confirm your attendance and preferred session.
