English Key Stage 3 Coordinator, Mr Stoker, said:
The aim of focussing on oracy has been to prepare students for their GCSE studies, where retained knowledge of texts and speaking and listening skills are highly important.
Year 7 and Year 8 students have all had the opportunity to perform and recite poetry and Shakespearean writing in lessons and at whole year events. Over the last term, students have been working on performing Shakespearean soliloquies and monologues of their own creation. Tuesday saw some fantastic performances from Year 8 in the main hall and Friday will see performances from Year 7.
Miss Vickers, English Key Stage 5 Coordinator, said of the event:
It was such a privilege to be an audience member for the performance. Students presented speeches of incredible passion, sharing raw emotions and revealing some exceptional oracy skills. I can’t wait to see how these students will use these skills as they progress through school and on to higher education and careers.
We’d like to congratulate all of the students and staff who came together to make this such a fantastic project.
