Religious Education

Religious Education (RE) is taught thematically. It is largely based on the Manchester Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education (MAS) and further includes elements of learning that best suit our unique demographic.

All students participate in a weekly lesson of RE. RE is also taught to all students as an examination subject at GCSE and we have the potential to offer a comprehensive course of Philosophy and Ethics at Advanced Level too. RE is taught by a strong team of specialists within the Global Awareness faculty. For the most up-to-date version of our curriculum map, please look at our Global Awareness page. Our RE curriculum aims to engage students on a five-year learning journey of religion, atheism, international culture and worldwide issues. We aim to create, curious, compassionate, knowledgeable and culturally aware students who leave us with a secure knowledge and understanding of all 6 major world faiths and prevalent atheistic world views.

Parents/carers have the right to ask that their child does not take part in Religious Education and collective acts of worship. This request needs to be made in writing to the school. Parents/carers are expected to provide alternative work for students for who this applies.
