Parents’ FAQ

It is normal to be excited and/or worried about your child when they are starting secondary school. The resources and links on this page are here to help answer any questions that you may have.

What time should my daughter be in school?

Your daughter should be in school by 8:20am. Lessons start at 8.30am and she must be in her form room or assembly at this time. The school building is open for students from 8:00am every day and on arrival your daughter should go straight to her form room.

Where do I drop my daughter off and pick her up from?

We will contact you with full details of where to drop her off and where to collect her from.

Before coming to school, you must ensure you have agreed how your daughter is making her way home or where you are being collecting from. Parents/carers are not allowed to come into the school building to collect students.

We would like to encourage our students where possible to walk or cycle to school. There are many benefits attached to walking and cycling.

We continue to be concerned about traffic safety and would like all parents/carers to help us to keep our students safe by parking well away from the school and being mindful of our neighbours at the start and end of each day. We are unable to allow parents/carers to drive onto the school site to collect their daughter.

For more information please see our Getting to School page.

What time does the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) open and close?

The LRC is open for all students afterschool until 5:15pm. All students must leave the school building by 5:30pm.

How do I pay for my daughter’s food at break/lunch?

We operate a cashless system at school and payments are only accepted online via the ParentPay website or by cash at a PayPoint at local retailers*. Cash is no longer accepted in school. You will receive a letter from us which provides you with details of how to register, if you require any support doing this please contact school.

How do I find out if we are eligible for free school meals?

The criteria and information of how to apply can be found on Free School Meals page.

Applications must be made by the parent/carer, schools are unable to make applications on your behalf. However if you require any support please contact school.

What uniform is required and where can I get it from?

Please visit our School Uniform page, which contains full information about our uniform.

Which subjects will my daughter study?

Our curriculum is designed to provide appropriate challenge to all students and foster an enjoyment of learning. Students also develop their reading, writing, numeracy and communication skills; to be resilient, confident and to persevere, as well as how to work cooperatively with others. For more information please go to our curriculum section.

How much homework will my daughter get?

Homework will be set regularly, however during the first half term of year 7 the amount set will be increased gradually to allow students to develop good organisational skills. Sometimes it will be the completion of work set online through school resources such as Frog.

If your daughter has any issues with the completion of homework please encourage her to speak to her Form Tutor or contact your daughter’s Head of Year who will be able to provide support.

What does my daughter need to bring to school each day?

Please ensure that your daughter has a school bag with her books and stationary in. It is best to pack this before she goes to bed each night for the next day.

Where can I find additional information?

The best place to find up to date information is here on our school website.

Every student has access to Microsoft resources and on the school’s Frog site there is a page for all subjects with links to resources to help your daughter with their studies.
