What Will I Study?

The four themes address a range of content related to society past and present, as well as aspects of the political and artistic culture of the Arabic-speaking world. Themes 1 and 3 focus on aspects of society, while Theme 2 focuses on artistic culture and Theme 4 on political culture.

Students are required to select only one research subject for Paper 1, which must be based on one Arabic speaking country only. An Arabic speaking country is a country where Arabic is an official language. For research, students must cover all three aspects of the research subject.

How Will I Be Assessed?

The Pearson Edexcel Advanced GCE in Arabic consists of three externally examined papers that assess listening, reading, and writing skills. These assessments will be set and marked by Pearson. Students must complete all assessments in May/June in any single year.

  • Paper 1: Translation into English, reading comprehension and writing (research question) in Arabic
  • Paper 2: Translation into Arabic and written response to works
  • Paper 3: Listening, reading and writing in Arabic

What Could I Do Next?

There are a range of higher education opportunities for language degrees either on their own or combined with other subjects such as business, law, medicine and tourism. There is also the opportunity for a year abroad in many degree subjects if you have a language Advanced Level.

All students studying this language will have the opportunity to be involved with the annual MACFEST Festival and speak in front of prestigious individuals and other schools.
