Inclusion and SEN

Vision

We work with students and their parents/carers to make it possible for every young person to participate fully in their education and to secure strong academic progress and personal outcomes and to enable individual students to learn effectively with greater independence.

Curriculum

Our SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) is Mrs S Zarar.

Interventions and Support

  • Writing Challenge – Intervention to support the progress of Key Stage 3 students who are below their target in English
  • Accelerated Reading – Support for Year 7 and Year 8 students with reading ages between 7.6 to 9.6 years
  • Maths Challenge – Intervention to support the progress of Key Stage 3 students who are below their target in Maths
  • First Class Numeracy and Success at Arithmetic – Intervention for Key Stage 3 students who are working at a low level in maths
  • Induction English – Intervention to develop the language skills of our EAL students new to English
  • In-class and out-of-class support – Additional support for our EAL and SEN students across the curriculum
  • Phonics – Additional support for our EAL students at registration time to develop their reading
  • Catch up literacy – Additional support for targeted students in developing literacy skills
  • 1:1 Mentoring – Social skills and organisational skills sessions offered to all students at registration
  • 1:1 Support – Individual support for coursework/homework offered to all students

Clubs and Support

Key Stage 3

  • Breakfast club – 1:1 reading with Key Stage 3 students
  • Break club – Available to all students who need help with homework or classwork
  • Lunch club – Available to all students for support in all subjects
  • After school – Drop-in session for any student needing additional support in any subject

Key Stage 4

  • Registration club: Aimed at targeted students requiring support in Maths, English and/or Science
  • Lunch club: Aimed at targeted students requiring support in Maths, English and/or Science
  • After-school club: Aimed at targeted students requiring support in Maths, English and/or Science

All year groups:

  • Pastoral Interview – for all students taking part in the intervention programmes
  • Craft club – Jewellery making and paper crafts
  • Laptop club – Drop in support sessions for all subjects using laptops
  • Film club

For Parents/Carers

  • Parental contact – Mrs Bajwa is in regular contact with all parents/carers whose daughters are taking part in the different challenges
  • EAL adult class – Twice weekly sessions for parents/carers who want to learn or improve English
  • New admissions – All new admissions will be contacted by our Admissions team before starting school and will be invited in for an induction session and initial assessment in English and Maths
