The lesson focused on myth busting misconceptions of the industry; taking the students through Justin’s career journey from school to now and beyond, focusing on the decisions he made and who influenced them. The lesson also included a case study on the future of careers in engineering to challenge the students. He spoke of his belief that many of our students can have a wonderful future in engineering:

The students at Whalley Range did a fantastic job at understanding the roles and opportunities in engineering and explored a number of global challenges that Siemens are helping to tackle.

The lesson was facilitated in collaboration with Teach First, an educational charity in the UK, as part of the ‘Big Class Challenge’. Miss Jansen, STEM coordinator at Whalley Range, organised the event as part of our focus on broadening student horizons around STEM careers. She said:

This was an excellent opportunity for our pupils to learn about how careers in STEM can influence the bigger picture in society and to hear about Justin’s journey and how he developed resilience to overcome challenges.
